Utah Projects

The following philanthropies are sponsored and supported by the P.E.O. Utah State Chapter. These philanthropies include ten state scholarship, grant or loan programs, including three for Utah women attending Cottey College. Note: candidates for these funds must be U.S. or Canadian citizens or legal permanent residents.

 

The Helen Abbott Fund, established in 1952, provides a one-time financial award to aid a member or nonmember in an immediate emergency or to support their educational pursuit in a degree or certification program at a Utah post-secondary institution. The recipient must be a Utah resident and recommended by a Utah P.E.O. chapter. The current maximum grant is $1,500. Applications may be received throughout the year.

The Susan W. Coda Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in 1988, provides a one-time merit-based scholarship to an exceptional Utah woman attending a college or university outside the state of Utah. The recipient must be a Utah resident at the time of application and have attended a Utah high school. The scholarship amount varies. Applications are distributed to Utah high schools annually in November and are due March 1.

The Gump & Ayers Scholarship Fund, established in 1996, provides a one-time scholarship to a Utah woman who is a high school graduate and a single mother pursuing a higher education to provide tools for the financial security and support of herself and her family. The recipient must be a Utah resident and be recommended by a Utah P.E.O. chapter. The scholarship amount varies. Applications are distributed to Utah colleges and universities annually in November and are due March 5.

The Ruth S. Clayton Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund, established in 2001, provides a scholarship to a woman who is a graduate of a Utah high school, is accepted into a R.N. or R.N./B.S.N. program at a Utah educational institution and has demonstrated financial need. The recipient must be recommended by a Utah P.E.O. chapter. The maximum scholarship amount is $4,000. Applications are distributed to Utah colleges and universities annually in November and are due April 15.

The Carole Putnam Fund, established in 2001, provides a one-time scholarship to a woman who is seeking education not part of a degree program at a Utah educational facility. The applicant must have a realistic educational goal and demonstrate financial need. The recipient must be a Utah resident and be recommended by a Utah P.E.O. chapter. The scholarship amount varies. Applications are accepted at anytime during the year.

The Ruth Orton and Nancy Pinto-Orton Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship for undergraduate and/or graduate Utah women pursuing a degree in performance or visual arts at the Utah college or University of their choice.  The scholarship amount varies, with a minimum amount of $2,500. Applications are due April 30.

The Glen Ella Jones Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a female Utah resident, 21 years of age or older, who has graduated from high school or has earned a GED, and who has never completed a college degree. This scholarship may be used at any two- or four-year college or university, including nationally accredited vocational schools. The scholarship shall be awarded based on educational goals, career plans and financial need. The recipient must be recommended by a Utah P.E.O. chapter. Applications are accepted between January 1 - April 15.

Cottey College Scholarships

 

The Utah Cottey College Scholarship Fund, established in 1949, provides scholarships to Utah high school graduates attending Cottey College. The recipient must be a Utah resident. The scholarship amount varies.

 

The Ruth H. Clark Cottey College Scholarship Fund, established in 1988, provides scholarships to Utah high school graduates attending Cottey College. The recipient must be a Utah resident. The scholarship amount varies.

 

The Cottey Travel Fund, established in 2005, provides a one-time grant to a prospective student of Cottey College for reimbursement of travel expenses to visit the Cottey College campus in Nevada, Missouri as part of an organized visit. The recipient must be a Utah resident. The maximum amount of the award is $500. Applications must be received at least one month before the date of the visit.
