P.E.O. International

Utah History

The P.E.O. Sisterhood organized its first chapter in Utah on January 13, 1900. One of the original seven P.E.O. founders, Franc Roads Elliott, was teaching in Utah at the time and helped with the preliminary work of organization. Chapter A remained the only Utah chapter until May 1920 when Chapter B, Chapter C and Chapter D were all organized within days of each other. In August 1935, 22 delegates of the 11 Utah chapters attended a convocation at which the petition to form a state chapter was presented. In September of that year a delegation of Utah P.E.O.s attended the Convocation of Supreme Chapter in Yellowstone Park. The following year Chapter B hosted the first Utah State Convention in Price.

Utah currently has 33 active chapters and eight state scholarship funds, including two for Utah women attending Cottey College. The Utah chapters hold a state wide fund raising event each fall, raising funds for the support of the philanthropies of both P.E.O. International and the Utah State Chapter.
